Boy Scout Troop 101 Minsi Trails Council at a Glance
Troop 101 has a proud legacy that spans over four decades, with 2023 marking our 40th anniversary. To celebrate this significant milestone, we proudly introduced custom Troop Numeral Patches with 40-Year Veteran Bars, a symbol of our enduring commitment to Scouting. Founded in 1983 and chartered by Salem United Church of Christ, the oldest church in the west end of Monroe County, Troop 101 has had a remarkable journey.
Throughout the years, the Troop has been guided by many dedicated Scoutmasters, including Alex Mati, Erik Jansen, and our current Scoutmaster, Ed Schaefer. Together, they’ve led the Troop to produce 31 Eagle Scouts, with the most recent being Landyn Hinton. We look forward to adding even more to this distinguished group in the coming year.
Our Troop is deeply committed to service, regularly participating in impactful community projects such as Scouting for Food, clothing and blood drives, area cleanups, the Garden of Giving (which provides fresh food for families in need), and organizing the opening Flag Ceremony for the West End Relay for Life. In addition, we are proud to serve our charter organization, Salem UCC, through their Strawberry Festival, Fall Festival, West End Fair Food Stand, and property maintenance and cleanup.
We also share a strong connection with Trexler Scout Reservation in Jonas. Our Scouts have long enjoyed camping at Camp Trexler (formerly Settlers Camp) and participating in the Trexler Rangers program. Many of our Scouts have worked, or continue to work, as staff members at both Camp Trexler and Akelaland Cub Scout Camp, passing on their skills and leadership to the next generation of Scouts. In 2024 our troop started a new journey with Camp Minsi. We look forward to making lasting memories and continue to pass on our skills and leadership to scouts at Camp Minsi.
Troop 101's history is one of dedication, service, and tradition—values we continue to uphold as we move forward, shaping future generations of Scouts.
